I’m thinking about 2025. It is just around the corner. 2024 was a Blackwildgirl year, a year of launching Blackwildgirl, and thinking about the little girl I was and still am in many ways. Yet while I hold on and cherish my little Blackwildgirl, I want to step even more into my destiny as Blackwildgoddess.
In Blackwildgirl, I share a poem about Blackwildgoddess:
Blackwildgoddess.
Birthed from the Ultimate Mother—the Divine
Mother,
The Motherland of Africa:
A place of old wise ways and wisdom,
Of pyramids and temples,
Of ashes and ancient ancestral energy.
Birthed from rainbows
And from pots of possibility and potential,
From dust and clay and
Bits of silver and gold.
Blackwildgoddess.
Transported from the Motherland to the Fatherland
From Africa to America
Baptized in the Middle Passage through trauma and trials
Surviving rape and ravaging
Creating new goddesses to worship and
New words to speak.
Singing love songs,
Bathed in rhythms from slave ships and cotton fields,
Created on plantations of tobacco and in paddies of rice.
Love songs that comfort and caress:
Spirituals and gospel
Rhythm, blues, and jazz
Reggae and rap,
Classical and hip-hop.
Soulful and sometimes sorrow full,
Act IV: Branches ¥ 345
Steel pan drums syncopating and
singing life into the almost lifeless,
Shattering silences.
Blackwildgoddess.
Fed with soul food, leftovers made magical,
Oxtail, pigs’ feet, ham hocks, and hog maws,
Reviving and restoring hungry spaces.
Shielded
Shrouded
Shored up and
Sheltered.
Blackwildgoddess.
A warrior,
Wielding her wildness as a weapon,
Moving and stomping through the world
With confidence, conviction, and courage.
Marking her territory,
Sashaying,
Dancing, dervishly whirling.
Bold. Fearless. Fierce.
Impetuous and impatient.
Wild and unruly.
Unrestrained.
Revolutionary.
These last few lines reflect my goal for 2025:
A warrior,
Wielding her wildness as a weapon,
Moving and stomping through the world
With confidence, conviction, and courage.
Marking her territory,
Sashaying,
Dancing, dervishly whirling.
Bold. Fearless. Fierce.
Impetuous and impatient.
Wild and unruly.
Unrestrained.
Revolutionary.
Throughout the year, I want to identify ways in which I can be more revolutionary, a bit more bold, more fearless, more fierce. I want to be more impetuous and impatient. But definitely wild and unruly and unrestrained. I’d like to start a Blackwildgoddess movement of women who know that we are queens and we are ready to claim our thrones and roles and help other women step into their destinies.
2025, look out! Here we come, a Blackwildgoddess Revolution!
